Timber Frame Much Better Than Masonry For Village Hall Build

A village hall to be built in north Wiltshire has been changed from masonry to timber frame.

The Goss Croft Village Hall project was initially set to use blockwork rendered with a concrete tile roof but the cost of construction was far beyond the trustees’ fund-raising capability.

A statement on the reasons for this change from Goss Croft’s committee reads: “modern composite construction and manufacturing techniques calmed all our previous perceptions of wooden structures and offer many advantages over block including, surprising to some, lifespan.”

“The general consensus now is that we are looking at a better, more attractive hall, that we had already planned”

By choosing a timber framed structure, the village hall now has the benefit of a rapid erection, far improved value in line with budget and “an outstanding appearance that was much more aesthetically pleasing, and significantly more fitting for our rural setting, than that the original block construction planned”
